Fac-Grad Liaison Description

Tasks (Onboarding):

  1. Reach out to the webmaster or email problem@cs.brown.edu to get editing permissions and to remove the permissions of the last FGL.
  2. Schedule time to talk with Lauren, Maurice (DGS), and Roberto (Department Head) to discuss initiatives and goals for the department for the coming year(s). Schedule recurring check-ins with the department head.
  3. Email grad students letting them know that you are in the role and what they can talk to you about (miscellaneous concerns, specific complaints, ideas for how to spend the Grad Student Nest Egg, volunteer positions).
  4. Edit anonymous feedback page (on department website) to direct email to you.

Tasks (Annual):

  1. Make sure the job descriptions and roles assignments pages are up to date.
  2. Send out an email soliciting comments or feedback (anonymous) for the department.
  3. Check in with Lauren about updates to positions or other miscellaneous tasks that need to be done.
  4. (Coordinate information on the department website, let new students know about digital resources like the website, slack, listservs, and student-run groups.)
  5. Actively seek out student perspectives.

Tasks (Handoff):

  1. Solicit nominations and do interviews, select successor(s), go through the onboaring process. Good candidates have passed candidacy and have good relations with most of the faculty and grad students.
