This site documents Brown CS graduate students with official duties. There are three different kinds of positions:
- Czars are volunteer positions entailing significant responsibility. Many have committees of assistants who, continuing the theme of Russian nobility, are named grafs.
- Khans are other volunteer positions.
- Mercenaries (or mercs, for short) are paid graduate positions, funded by Brown CS.
Almost all graduate students are expected to volunteer some time in one of these positions. In addition, there are a number of student positions usually filled by undergraduates.
