The second World Internet Conference, organized by Chinese officials to discuss Internet issues and policy, was held this year in Wuzhen, China. Attendees included Chinese leader Xi Jinping; Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba; and An Wang Professor of Computer Science John Savage of Brown CS, who served on the Internet Governance panel. This year, the conference saw the release of the Wuzhen Initiative, which calls on all countries to promote Internet development, foster cultural diversity in cyberspace, share the fruits of Internet development, ensure peace and security in cyberspace, and improve global Internet governance.

CCTV News, a channel of China Central Television which can be seen by more than 85 million viewers in 100 countries and territories, covered the event in a December 18 segment.
