Professor Sohini Ramachandran of Brown University's Center for Computational Molecular Biology and Brown CS has just been awarded the Philip J. Bray Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Physical Sciences.
Each year the Dean of the Faculty gives out five different awards to recognize continued excellence in teaching. The Philip J. Bray Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Physical Sciences, the John Rowe Workman Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Humanities, the Elizabeth LeDuc Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Life Sciences, and the William G. McLoughlin Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Social Sciences are four of the awards designated specifically for excellence in specific areas of study.
Sohini joins five other Brown CS faculty that have previously received a Dean of the Faculty Award. Michael Littman was the latest recipient of the award, in 2018.
Over the years, Sohini has taught courses in the intersection between statistical modeling and population genomics. Her research uses mathematical and computational models to study the causes and the consequences of human genomic variation. Sohini has previously won a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).
