Accessible and Inclusive Cybersecurity and Privacy
Fall 2025
will address the unique privacy and security challenges experienced by vulnerable and at-risk populations. Central to developing safer technology for all is recognizing and addressing the diverse digital-safety needs, responses, and risks of a wide range of users including how contextual and human factors shape privacy decisions and protective behaviors. We will examine the technical foundations of security and privacy, pinpointing where they fail to provide holistic safety solutions. We will also examine the role of AI chatbots and agents, analyzing how they can both enhance and compromise user safety. The course will blend theoretical knowledge with practical applications, covering inclusive design principles in cybersecurity and privacy, threat models for vulnerable groups, societal and ethical considerations for security practices, and strategies for integrating inclusivity into security research, policymaking, and system
