Master's Program Options

Our two options (research or coursework-only) allow a Master's student to choose one of the following for an Advanced Component while they work on completing Basic Component coursework.

Research Option

In this option, the Advanced Component of the requirements is satisfied by taking two instances of CSCI 2980, in which the student is doing a research project with a faculty member. To learn more about research opportunities for Master's students, click here.

Coursework-Only Option

In this option, the student takes two 2000-level CS courses, only one of which may be CSCI 2980.

Either option may be done as part of the professional track, in which students must complete full-time professional experiences, known as internships, doing work that's related to Computer Science, totaling 2-6 months, whereby each internship must be at least one month in duration. Internships, as used here, must be approved by the student's advisor or the Director of Graduate Studies (Master's).
