Return to the CODE Lab Homepage
Cybersecurity is one of the newest academic fields as well as a profession that is still defining itself. At its heart--whether as an area of study or as a profession--cybersecurity is about people dealing with the capabilities of technology. Brown University’s Cybersecurity and Organizational Behavior in Diplomacy and Enterprise (CODE) Lab was established to nurture Brown’s intellectual cybersecurity ecosystem.
The CODE Lab is a concept and a vehicle for bringing Brown’s community together for opportunities to study, question, reflect on, and solve cybersecurity challenges. Enterprise organizations have a tremendous de facto leadership role in shaping cybersecurity. The number of users and the size of budgets at enterprise organizations ensure that they have a strong voice over technological innovation. Similarly, governments and their economies of scale have the potential to bring positive change as the world grapples with cybersecurity challenges.
Diplomacy and enterprise shape the CODE Lab’s focus because of their impact on cybersecurity and its future. The world will need significant collaboration to overcome many of cybersecurity’s challenges.
I hope that the intellectual opportunities offered by the CODE Lab’s affiliated courses and research projects prepare our students to lead as cybersecurity innovators. I welcome businesses, governments, and their leaders to look to the CODE Lab for expertise and collaboration opportunities.
The CODE Lab is a small lab looking to make a big impact.
