The Pervasive Internet and Its Effect on Industrial Automation

Hesh Kagan, Invensys/Foxboro

The development of the pervasive Internet and pervasive computing is changing the very nature of how we live, work, and play. Pervasive computing is also changing the business model of how we design, develop, market, service and evolve products and services. The evolving business changes drive and in turn are driven by changes in the engineering of products, services and solutions. This presentation will describe the evolving business models with regard to pervasive computing and the Internet, discuss some relevant technologies within the automation world, and raise some interesting questions and concerns about the parallel evolution of engineering practices.
