Before entering your academic plan into MASK, you should be familiar with the requirements for the Brown CS master’s degree for your chosen track found on the track information pages (see the options on the CS master's degree homepage).

  1. Navigate to MASK using this link.
  2. Login using your Brown user ID and password if prompted to do so.

Create Your First Contract

  1. A partial contract has been created for you. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Edit & Resubmit button to open the form for editing.
  2. In the Student Information section, enter terms and years for Program Completion as well as your current interest area. The other fields cannot be modified.
  3. Enter all 6 courses you plan to take to satisfy the Basic Component requirement. Use the 4-letter department code (e.g., CSCI, APMA) and 4-digit course number. All fields are required on any row with a course number entry. Note that CSCI courses will have their official titles filed when you submit your contract.
  4. Under the Advanced Component, first indicate which of the two options you’ve chosen by checking the box for either Advanced Coursework or Project.
    a. If you are choosing Advanced Coursework, enter the 2 courses you plan to take to satisfy the requirement.
    b. For the Project option, enter the term and research advisor for the 2 instances of CSCI2980 you plan to take.
  5. If you intend to follow the Professional Track and take one or more internships, check the box. When you have made plans for your internship, update your Contract with the requested information.
  6. When you are ready to have your Program Advisor review your Contract, check the box confirming that you are ready to have it sent to your Advisor. You may optionally include a note to your Advisor in the text box.
  7. Click Submit to send your Contract to your Advisor for review and approval.
  8. You will receive an email notification when your Advisor has acted on your Contract submission, either approving it or rejecting it with comments. If approved by your Advisor, the contract will have Advisor Approved status.
  9. When your Contract is approved by your Program Advisor, it will be routed to the Master’s DGS for final approval. If the DGS approves your contract, the status will be DGS Approved. Should the DGS need to have an issue addressed in the contract, the DGS will reject it with comments that will be sent to you.

Revise an Existing Contract

  1. Upon logging in to MASK, you will see the last contract version you submitted.
  2. Working through each section of the form, you can update any of the information you had previously entered. You can also add courses, change Advance Component options, and select or unselect the Professional Track.
  3. If you have selected the Project Option in the Advanced Component, you will need to submit a project report.
  4. When you have completed the changes, please explain your updates to your Program Advisor in the text box at the bottom of the form.
  5. Then check the confirmation box and click Submit to send the updated Contract to your Advisor.
  6. When your Contract is approved by your Program Advisor, it will be routed to the Master’s DGS for final approval.

Questions about the academic program should be directed to your Program Advisor. If you have a  question about using MASK or feedback about the system, please email cs-mask-support@brown.edu.
