We are currently recruiting new coordinators for the summer of 1998. Applications are available on line or at the Swearer Center for Public Service.

The Project

The Artemis Project was started in the summer of '96 by two Brown University students, Laurie Kardos and Jesse Marmon, with the mission of enhancing self-confidence and building leadership skills through hands-on experience with computers. Take a look at the original Artemis home page and the original eight members of the program.

The Leaders

This year we, Jess Howell and Saori Taichi, also Brown undergraduates, are continuing Artemis' commitment to education and community during the month of July by offering a diverse four weeks of learning and fun.

The Participants

The Artemis participants are rising ninth-grade girls in Providence public schools. Due to the great success of last year's eight-student pilot program, this year there were over fifteen applicants. Here are the girls who are participating this year. Each participant wrote her own home page, so check them out.

The Summer Program

Artemis runs from June 30 to July 25. We meet five days a week, from 9:30 a.m. till 3 p.m., and every hour is filled with activity and learning.

Every student participated in creating one of these three Final Projects:

The Year-Round Program

Due to the great success of the summer program, Artemis is still on! During the school year, Artemis participants meet every other Saturday at the Swearer Center for Public Service. Some of the our activities are updating our Web pages, learning new computer skills, talking about high school, and even doing school work.

Resolutions for '98

The Sponsors

Artemis is funded by the National Science Foundation Graphics and Visualization Center and supported by the Howard R. Swearer Center for Public Service at Brown University.
Because this is a program free of charge to its participants, Artemis is very thankful for the support from community businesses and Brown University organizations.
