Post a project proposal document to the class wiki and add a link to this page. Before proposing your project, you should have done smoke tests with whatever equipment you plan to use. Don’t propose a Spot project if you haven’t made Spot move.

I’m looking for about 0.5 pages pages of text with the following explicitly labeled sections. This document will be morphed into the document for the midterm checkpoint and final project report.

Your proposal should contain the following elements (drawn from the Heilmeier catechism).

You will present your proposal in a 5m lightening talk in class on Thursday 3/5. Please add your slide to this slide deck.

  • Project title
  • Names of team members
  • What are you trying to do? Articulate your objectives using absolutely no jargon.
  • How is it done today, and what are the limits of current practice? This section should include citations to related work.
  • What’s new in your approach and why do you think it will be successful?
  • Who cares? If you’re successful, what difference will it make? What are the risks and the payoffs?
  • How long will it take? What are the midterm and final “exams” to check for success? Be as concrete as possible about these checkpoints.

You may use AI any way you like in this class including to prepare presentation slides. If you can get the AI to deliver the presentation, you are welcome to do that as well.
