Oblique Projections: Why?
Parallel projections make "mechanical" viewing easier
Lack of perspective foreshortening makes comparisons of sizes easier
Planes parallel to film plane (or view plane in synthetic camera) appear in the picture undistorted! Can take measurements on such planes--angles preserved, lengths all scaled by same constant.
Drawbacks of parallel non-oblique projection:consider front view of a box.
