Reflection Characteristics of Surfaces
Components of a simple illumination model
- Ambient reflection (a fudge factor)
- Diffuse reflection (light scattered equally in all directions)
- Specular reflections (mirror-like directed reflection)
Ambient reflection
- Independent of object position and viewer position
- constant
- Some light hits any surface from all other surfaces and light sources, and thus ensures that all visible surfaces get at least some light.
- I = IaKa
- Ia: intensity of ambient light
- Ka: fraction reflected (0 Ka 1)
