Before You Begin...
The JERPA Student and Administrator Clients are Java applications, so you will need a recent version of Sun's Java Development Kit (JDK). The JDK can be downloaded for free from Sun's web site (see link below). In order for the JERPA clients to function properly, it is necessary that you download version 1.3 or better.

Installation Instructions
Once JDK is installed and the executable JAR file has been downloaded, you should be ready to begin the installation.

First, you should check that the size of the downloaded JAR file matches that of the original copy on the server. (The actual sizes are listed above, below the respective download links). Some browsers have been found to corrupt JAR files during the download process, and checking the file size is a good way to make sure this has not happened.

Once you have the installer running, you will be prompted for the JDK install directory. If you installed JDK1.3 to the default directory, this should be automatically detected. Otherwise, you may have to specify the JDK install directory manually.

You will also be prompted for the directory where you want the JERPA client to be installed. "C:\jerpa" is the default; you may specify a different one if you'd like (however, avoid choosing a directory with spaces in the name, such as "C:\Program Files"; this may result in errors running the client or your Java programs).

Please note that the above downloads do not include the actual JERPA application binaries, hence their small file sizes. Instead, these are installation utilities that download the most recent version of the applications from a central server at Brown. Because of this, it is necessary that the utilities be run with an active Internet connection in place.
