I'm yet to meet a person who read Frater's Chasing the Monsoon and failed to like it. This book, which is older, returns to Frater's beloved tropics, but ranges much further. He reconstructs the route of the old Imperial Airways flight from London to Brisbane, tracking the route and drinking much beer along the way. It's a warm, funny, anecdotally rich book, evocative of an older era of flight. It was the perfect companion on a trans-Atlantic flight, and just the right size for one, too.
