Splines
A spline is a path made up of parametrically defined polynomials, a piecewise polynomial.
The coefficients in the polynomials are determined by certain control points, whose positions therefore influence the shape of the curve.
Control points can be moved to change the shape of the curve and therefore its derivatives.

Example: change in position of P2 changes shape of curve
Note: different types of splines may or may not pass through control points, but most at least hug them
