Our game, "The Wage Gap", was created to educate others about the wage gap between men and women. It simulates a day of work for a female (the character you play) and your male coworker. As time passes by on the clock, it shows how much money you are making, and how much your coworker is making. There are also options to choose different races for your character, highlighting further the wage difference. Our goal with this game is to help people become aware of this gap and try to do something about it.
The wage gap is a very serious issue that affects the daily lives of many women around the world, receiving less money in their paychecks than their male coworkers. Right now, the gender wage gap is 21 percent. There is a different percentage for different races compared to the percentage of a white male. According to IWPR "[i]n 2015, female full-time workers made only 79 cents for every dollar earned by men[.] Women on average earn less than men in virtually every single occupation for which there is sufficent earnings data for both men and women to calculate an earnings ratio."
