Notes: This is one of my favorite books. It describes the early part of Alexander the Great's life, up until his father's death. Alexander was probably one of the most charismatic people who have ever lived, and Renault captures that well through the eyes of Alexander's lover Hephaistion. Full of complicated intrigue. Supposedly (according to Nancy Urbano and other classicists I know) a historically accurate book, though much is fictional.
