Netscape is unable to use the mail server because
you have not provided a username. Please provide
one in the preferences and try again

If you are like me, you use Netscape to read newgroups but not for email, and this Netscape error message has been pissing you off and you can't figure out how to make it stop: Well, I'm not sure why it happens but, if you don't use netscape for mail, then do the following to make it stop:

• Go to: Edit -> Preferences -> Mail & Newsgroups -> Mail Servers
• If you have an entry in the "Incoming Mail Servers" box (mine says "pop"), highlight the entry
• Click "Delete"
• Restart Netscape and your problem is gone
