Reading Review for Class 20
This class’s readings are:
Your review should include both a summary of the paper and talk,
which discusses
- the problem the paper/talk addresses
- the paper/talk’s solution
- the evidence the paper/talk provides that the solution was
correct. Remember to keep in mind the historical context.
Your review should also discuss, after the summary:
- whether the problem solved is an important one
- whether the solution was a good one
- whether the paper/talk was fun or enjoyable to read/listen to.
- what questions you have about the paper/talk, or which parts of the
paper/talk (if any) you found hard to understand.
You should answer the above questions in about one sentence each. The
remainder of your review (about the below questions) should be about a
page (~500 words) long.
Finally, for this week’s paper, please reflect on the following
questions:
- One of Amin Vahdat’s arguments in his talk is that network protocols
and algorithms must involve to cope with the growth in computing demand.
Is the “five computers” paper complementary or contradictory to this
argument?
- What are the implications of the trends Amin Vahdat observed for the
structure of the Internet and Internet applications? If these trends
continue, what might the Internet look like 10 years from now? Who will
be the winners and losers from these trends?
