Reading Review for Class 2
This class’s readings are (pick 2):
Your review should include both a summary of these papers, which
discusses
- the problem the paper addresses
- the paper’s solution
- the evidence the paper provides that the solution was
correct. This class we are reading two historical papers, so
remember to keep in mind the historical context the papers discuss.
Your review should also discuss, after the summary:
- whether the problem the paper solved is an important
one
- whether the solution was a good one
- whether the paper was fun or enjoyable to read.
Finally, for this week’s papers, please reflect on the following
questions:
- Does the Internet architecture still follow the principles David
Clark wrote about in Clark ’88? Why or why not?
- Does the end-to-end priciple still hold today? In what ways does it
hold, and in what ways doesn’t it? Should the modern Internet
follow the end-to-end principle?
- Find an example from the news that represents one of the “tussles”
David Clark et al. described. Who benefits from the Internet’s
architecture, and who (if anyone) is marginalized? What about the
Internet architecture causes this?
Your review’s total length should be about 1 page or less.
