Reading Review for Class 19

Floem offers a way for applications to use CPUs attached to the NIC (i.e., SmartNIC), in addition to the “normal” CPUs. Prior work has advocated for using these NIC cores for cloud provider functionality rather than application functionality, such as the Azure VFP optional reading from earlier this semester (though that paper used an FPGA attached to the NIC, rather than a CPU). Which use of the NIC’s cores do you believe is more useful? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each approach?
