✨ Readings on Mental Overload with AI ✨
Due: Tues Apr 21 by 9am
Learning Objectives
To discuss the impact of using AI on our experiences as programmers
Assignment Tasks
Put your work in the github classroom repo called Semester-End Reflection Tasks
Task 1: In a file called impact.md, answer these three questions in separate subsections (do this before reading the posted articles). If you genuinely had no cases of feeling fatigued or especially productive, say so (we'll be surprised if you had neither of these).
- What habits or practices have you developed this semester to work effectively with Claude on assignments? (These can be technical steps, time management practices, interaction practices, etc)
- Describe a couple of concrete situations in which you experienced fatigue while working with Claude this semester: mention which assignment and which aspect of the assignment and reflect on where the fatigue was coming from.
- Describe a couple of concrete situations in which you felt especially productive this semester.
Task 2: Read these two articles (PDF versions are in an EdSTEM post if you need them):
- When Using AI Leads to 'Brain Fry'
- Vibe Coding Paralysis: When Infinite Productivity Breaks Your Brain
Task 3: In a section called "Response", describe how well the two articles capture what you wrote about for Task 1. For example, Do they give a useful vocabulary for anything you mentioned? Are there nuances in the articles that do or do not apply to the situations you described? We're curious about the extent to which you agree or disagree with the articles' observations from your perspective as a student using AI in a course.
Grading
We want to see you taking this seriously and providing concrete examples (both from your own work and the article texts), rather than just abstract statements.
