Newsgroup Setup

Below you'll find tips for how to set the newsgroup up using various newsgroup readers.

Thunderbird:
1) Go to "Edit" then "Account Settings..."
2) Hit "Add Account..." and then choose "Newsgroup Account"
3) You will need to enter your real name, your cs e-mail address and specify the news server: news.brown.edu. The Account Name can be whatever you want.
4) Click "Finish" then "Ok" then right click on the newsgroup account you just created and click on Subscribe...
5) Search for or navigate through the list of groups to find cs125.
6) Click on that newsgroup, then hit the "Subscribe" button on the right.
7) Click "OK" in that window.
8) Click on "b.c.cs125" to bring up the news reader. You will now be able to read and post messages.

Pine: The newsgroup is also accessible through Pine:
1) Open Pine by typing "pine" in a shell.
2) Select Folder List.
3) Select News on "news.brown.edu/nntp".
4) Type "A" for Add.
5) Enter "brown.cs.cs125" and hit enter.

Outlook Express: for your Windows machine at home
1) Open Outlook Express and go to the Tools menu
2) Select Accounts item
3) Click on the News Tab
4) Click on Add -> News
5) Enter your information: full name, email, news.brown.edu
5) It will ask you if you want to download or view the newsgroups, do it.
6) Find and subscribe to brown.cs.cs125.
7) Click on brown.cs.cs125 to show the post listing.
