Want to learn: I would like to gain an understanding of the state of the field of visualation, and end up working on a project that uses the unique resources of the CAVE.

Other goals for class: I think it would be great to come up with an exciting project for a problem that hasn't been solved.

Role you would like to play in a project and skills you bring: I believe that I can play a role as a project manager; I also hope to get into interactive graphics programming.

Relevant math classes taken (calculus, linear algebra, numerical methods, signal processing, ode's, pde's, etc.): calc III and linear algebra.

Relevant science classes taken: Intro to neuroscience, several cognitive science courses.

Other relevant classes or experience: For the fall of 1999, I worked at the SETI Institute. This summer, I studied dolphin communication and cognition in Hawai'i. I have also spent some time in Bill Warren's visual perception lab, and a human EEG lab. I've taken cs123, which should help with graphics, and cs190, which should help with the logistics of working on a large project.

Want to learn: current techniques for visualization; how different visual cues can enhance cognition; grant proposal process; techniques for distilation of large data sets

Other goals for class: become familiar with CAVE; improve presentation and communication skills

Role you would like to play in a project and skills you bring: If I get excited about an idea, I would like to manage a project; otherwise, I bring solid coding (C++, Java) and organizational skills, as well as experience writing grant proposals in other fields.

Relevant math classes taken (calculus, linear algebra, numerical methods, signal processing, ode's, pde's, etc.): two semesters of calc

Relevant science classes taken: cs123, cs32, AP Biology, intro chem, modeling global environmental issues, es11-12

Other relevant classes or experience: designed and am currently implementing a program to visualize software performance data

Want to learn: A lot. Especially: What's out there in terms of visualization techniques right now? What is needed? Can I invent it?

Other goals for class: To be involved with a project relating to aerospace or astronomy research.

Role you would like to play in a project and skills you bring: To specialize in seeing to the accuracy of the physics used in the computer model.

Relevant math classes taken (calculus, linear algebra, numerical methods, signal processing, ode's, pde's, etc.): MA54, AM33, AM34, EN52 (electric circuits, including signal processing)

Relevant science classes taken: EN175 (Advanced Mechanics of Solids/Finite Element Analysis)

Other relevant classes or experience: Expansive experience with CAD, several summer research projects involving 2D computer visualization applications.

Want to learn: I want to observe how other disciplines interact with computer graphics, and learn from their experiences.

Other goals for class: To continue my efforts of visualizing fluid flow simulation data. I would like to work on hierarchical visualization during this term.

Role you would like to play in a project and skills you bring: I have published work on using painterly methods for fluid mechanics, and I have done a considerable amount of work in Brown's CAVE. I have an interest in mathematics, fluid mechanics and computer science, which allows me to have fun (and hopefully some success) in interdisciplinary efforts.

Relevant math classes taken (calculus, linear algebra, numerical methods, signal processing, ode's, pde's, etc.): Working on Ph.D. in Applied Math .... (ie. have taken all of the above)

Relevant science classes taken: Physics, fluid mechanics

Other relevant classes or experience: Almost my entire time at Brown has been spent working on interdisciplinary projects between applied math and computer science.
