Brian Chuck bchuck CS 190 Project: Online Student Application Suite Target Users: University students Idea: The basic idea behind this is that, for a student, it can be a bit of a pain to not own your own computer. This means having to do all your computer work from a cluster or someone else's computer. In this day and age, much of a student's work is done on computer; mostly students use it to write papers. This online office suite will start off as a site where students can store files online and also use an online word processor. Thus, they can access their files and work on papers from any computer with an internet connection. Another useful tool is a chat client, similar to AIM, where users can have online chats with their friends. Since all students love to procrastinate, the chat client would prove very to be a valued feature of the site. With the word processor as the base application, the suite can be expanded to a student's online office space, where they can do many things. Future things to add include a calendar/planner and address book. Basic Requirements: 1) Security - each user has his/her own account - ability to log in 2) File Storage - each user gets a certain amount of disk space - user has the ability to upload and download files from their account 3) Word Processor - online word processor - basic functionality of a word processor - ability to edit text (obvious) - page setup (margins, borders) - bold, italics, underline - fonts - word wrap - spacing (double, single) 4) Chat Client - like AIM, users can send messages back and forth to each other Optional Features: 1) Address Book - store names, addresses, info of people user knows - be able to organize the user's contacts into different categories like friends, contacts, business, family, etc. priority: high 2) Calendar/Planner - basic calendar and planner functionality - able to write in appointments, obligations, etc. priority: low (it's probably too big to be able to add on reasonably for this semester)
