================================================================ Name: Lisa Cozzens ================================================================ Questions/comments about the syllabus or project handout: none ================================================================ Project Title 1: Menu Creator - program to help with planning meals by offering recipe suggestions, providing nutritional information, generating shopping lists, etc. Local Users: students off meal plan and attempting to cook for themselves Score Useful to others: 4 Has specific users: 5 Can be scaled up to PC product: 5 Divisible: 4 In C++ on Suns: 5 Overall: 4 Pros: Could be very useful (having just gone off meal plan, I wish I had a program like this!), it can be easily scaled up, nothing like this currently exists for any platform Cons: There might be quite a bit of busy work in generating the databases (of recipes, of nutritional information, etc.) needed ================================================================ Project Title 2: Wave++ - a programming environment for beginner programmers, like Wave from CS15 but better Local Users: students in intro-level CS classes (CS4, CS15/16, CS17/18) Score Useful to others: 5 Has specific users: 5 Can be scaled up to PC product: 4 Divisible: 4 In C++ on Suns: 4 Overall: 4.5 Pros: lots of local users to ask for ideas, test on, etc. Cons: figuring out what a GOOD programming environment for beginners should look like might create a whole lot of debate.... (which might be interesting nonetheless) ================================================================ Project Title 3: WebReg - a web-based course registration system Local Users: registrar's office, students Score Useful to others: 5 Has specific users: 5 Can be scaled up to PC product: 5 Divisible: 4 In C++ on Suns: 3 Overall: 3.5 Pros: lots of local users to test on, can be easily scaled up/down (basic program might just do registration, more advanced program could print out class lists for professors, handle weird things like limited enrollment classes, give out grades on the web...), the registrar's office and lots of Brown students would be very happy if we actually did this right :) Cons: this could be really hard (the fact that the registrar's office has been talking about doing this for ages but hasn't actually implemented it yet is not encouraging) ================================================================ Project Title 4: SportsStats - a (hopefully) generic package for keeping track of the statistics of players on sports teams Local Users: athletic department Score Useful to others: 5 Has specific users: 5 Can be scaled up to PC product: 3 Divisible: 4 In C++ on Suns: 5 Overall: Pros: all sorts of bells and whistles could be added (graphs, output to HTML for inclusion on team web pages....) Cons: might not be terribly exciting to write ================================================================ Project Title 5: Local Users: Score Useful to others: Has specific users: Can be scaled up to PC product: Divisible: In C++ on Suns: Overall: Pros: Cons: ================================================================
