I think that’s sufficient. Score (out of 5, 5 being the highest) Useful to others: 4 Has specific users: 5 Can be scaled up to PC product: 5 Divisible: 3 In C++ on Suns: 4 Overall: 4 Pros: Has a large potential user base, has seen successful implementations on PC platforms, can be extended to handle more and more internet protocols and create macros for downloading, offline internet browsing, and subscription based services such as an update manager (ala Windows 98 Updater, a good idea, but a poor implementation) Cons: I have a problem seeing more than 5 or 6 divisible parts to this program, but maybe group brainstorming can pick out more extensions that I’m not seeing. ================================================================ Project Title 2: Deformable 3D Polygon Modeler Local Users: Anyone wanting to model organic 3D shapes to be included into real-time or photorealistic renderers. Basically, 3D graphics designers Score Useful to others: 3 Has specific users: 4 Can be scaled up to PC product: 4 Divisible: 4 In C++ on Suns: 3 Overall: 3.5 Pros: Easy to extend, with new shapes, and new 3D effects. Can be broken down fairly easily into different sections. And, hey, it would look cool. Cons: Requires knowledge of graphics and 3D fundamentals for much of the programming, might be a high learning curve for those who did not take cs123 ================================================================ Project Title 3: Conference client/server Local Users: Anyone wanting to remotely plan and work on a project in a unix environment Score Useful to others: 4 Has specific users: 4 Can be scaled up to PC product: 4 Divisible: 5 In C++ on Suns: 5 Overall: 4.5 Pros: Very modular design, can be split into parts for voice communication, white board, sharing of x- windows apps, etc... Can be added to easily. Very useful for people involved in a large scale project (such as in cs190) Cons: None that I can think of at the moment.
