Modular Robots
The basis of our project is the design of a modular robotics system. We plan on having 2 separate robots that can function individually. One of these robots will be a slightly specialized head unit, the other will be a tail unit. The robots will communicate with each other by utilizing bump sensors and light sensors. The main goal of our design is to enable the individual robots to locate each other, and assemble themselves into a larger individual. This type of robot could have many useful applications. When separated, the robot would be able to search an area more rapidly or divide labor into smaller tasks. The assembled robot could perform tasks that the individual parts might not be able to, such as climbing or moving large objects. If the project goes well, we will try and implement a greater behavior, such as climbing stairs, that the assembled bot could perform.
