The Project
The purpose of this project is to support students in meeting Rhode Island English
Standards.
The Objectives
1. Improve reading comprehension
2. Practice test-taking strategies
3. Increase vocabulary
The Target Audience
Primary: 8th grade students at Nathan Bishop Middle School
Secondary: Other middle school students
Personality
A theme or metaphor for the software is undecided.
Current Mind Set
Test-taking strategies will be modeled after those used in the Princeton Review
for Rhode Island State Assessments. However, this project strives to improve
upon the type of reading material provided to students by selecting a variety
of engaging texts that will appeal to the interests of middle school students.
In addition, an effort will be made address higher order thinking skills by providing a practice area in which students may . . . (not sure about this yet).
Development Strategy
A single path through the software will be developed as a prototype and presented
to a representative sample of students to assess user reaction. The software
features will be modified based on this feedback.
Formative Evaluation
Feedback from both Mr. Caruso and his students will be solicited at every stage
of product development to guide the design.
