Basketball.
Very few would even dare to argue that you are witnessing the greatest basketball player ever, Michael Jordan. Some may suggest that he his the greatest athlete ever; but it doesn't really matter-he is the best at what he does, bottom line. The reason why he is so great is because of his completeness as a player; which is easy to conceive yet difficult to perform. He is undoubtedly the most skilled player, but that doesn't necessarily make him the greatest player. Michael possesses a unique success drive which causes him to constantly improve himself as a player (probably as a person as well, but I don't know him personally). You should think of him as a current masterpiece which will never stop undergoing improvements until he leaves this world. He doesn't accept failure, yet is not overconfident to believe that he can never fail (there is a difference). Regardless of what anti-Jordan fans (if there are any) may say, he is a team oriented player and understands the necessary roles which his teammates must play for them to win; which highlights his unselfish nature. And one of most underlying attributes which marks Jordan as an elite is his modest attitude. He never goes in leaps and bounds to comment on himself or his play, when he very easily and justly can, yet still remains confident. One in a million is too small of a number to describe him; try the only one ever.

Football.

Barry Sanders. Hands down the best current rushing RB in the game. It would be an understatement to say that he is the person who most RB try to emulate (including myself). His stats alone are impressive, but considering the circumstances which he obtains them, they are almost unbelievable. It is easy to be a champion when you are surrounded by champions; it is not so easy when you aren't. This is what separates Barry from other great rushers. Here is a quote from Detroit Free Press sports reporter Mitch Albom, which puts which puts into perspective how good Barry really is: "In his first year, he was a wonder. In his second year, he was a blur. In his third year, he was a miracle. And now? Now he's just ours. And no one else can have him." Barry Sanders, all time record holder for consecutive seasons with 1000 yards rushing (8).
