MSLab Info
Regarding the DLE Software in the Win2k lab: 1) As of right now, we strongly recommend (and request) that you do your work on your home computer. While you are now free to login and use the computers, there have been some unanticipated problems with the version of the software designed for the labs, some problems with J++, and general problems with roaming profiles, logging in, and so on. Please keep in mind that this experiment was designed with working at home in mind, without knowledge of this lab, so as a result, things are a little bit buggy right now. 2) Please do not install the DLE software as downloaded from the web page onto the Win2k machines. We did that in the help session to simulate using it at home; that is not how it is going to work in the lab. There are various security issues with storing files in c:\temp (please do not put any code here!), and currently your quotas are not large enough to support the overhead of the full DLE client in your godzilla home directory. This is another reason we would prefer you to work at home for now. 3) When the lab is ready for you to code in, we will let you know. You're free to come in, play with any of the software on the machines (J++, Word, etc.), but please don't write any cs016 code unless you take it with you on a floppy when you leave. Just to be clear: DON'T INSTALL THE DLE SOFTWARE ON THE W2K MACHINES! For now, your best bet is to get everything working at home. Regarding the MSLab in General: 1) You are all being trusted not to abuse the equipment; you are responsible if something happens to the equipment while you are in there. Please keep us, and the tstaff happy by cleaning up after yourself (don't leave trash lying around the nodes). 2) No food in the lab. 3) Don't let anyone in who is not authorized to be there. Basically, if they do not have a valid login account, they shouldn't be there. 4) The lab is closed between 7-9pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays for CS2 section (also check the CS motd for other lab closings). The lab also closes at 2AM (Same hours as the Sunlab). Technically you should not be in the lab without an MSLab consultant (or cs016 ta) on duty. Ever. ![]() |
