I have a roommate right now until the middle of February. A visiting teacher from Thailand. I was a little worried about the personal space issue (1-bedroom apartment) but it's fine. Now the only thing I'm worried about is keeping her fed; I have enough problems getting healthy food into myself each week. It's making me cook, though, and that makes me happy. And I'm constantly keeping the apartment tidy, another thing that improves my mood.
We're cooking Thai food tomorrow, but I've been doing the cooking so far. "American" cooking, only I keep trying to think of truly American foods and it's tough. We borrow from everybody! So now I joke about it: "American breakfast!" I say, "oh, except the omelette. It's French."
Nothing is as "American as apple pie." But is apple pie really American? We can't have been the first people to put apples in pastry. I am fairly certain that we were the first to make pumpkin into a sweet custardy pie though. Hmmmmm.
