Job Information

The SPOCs (Systems Programmer, Operator, and Consultants) assist in the installation, maintenance, development, and documentation of local software. They work as part of the technical staff, and represent the technical staff off-hours.

The SPOCs report to the director of facilities and work closely with the user services coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Providing advice and support to users
  • Providing off-hours support for departmental systems
  • After-hours emergency response
  • Designing and implementing application programs and scripts
  • Installing, documenting, and supporting new and existing software
  • Sharing in the disk backup and restore responsibilities

During the semester, SPOCs typically work 10 hours a week. During the summer, SPOCs typically work 37.5 hours a week, and, in addition to the tasks above, assist the technical staff in the completion of longer-term projects.

Hiring

The SPOCs are hired each spring, and will generally start working at the beginning of June. They are hired by the user services coordinator with input from the rest of the technical staff.
