Ergonomic Pool
Here is a list of equipment in the ergonomic pool. The purpose of this pool is to allow people to try out a keyboard before buying one. The pool is for graduate students, faculty and staff. This equipment is designed to mimimize non-neutral wrist position while computing. This NIH page gives examples of the wrist positions mentioned below.Keyboards
Comfort Type Slim Keyboard ($20)- nonsplit, slanted key structure that encourages a relaxed wrist position (i.e. neutral posture in lateral deviation, non-adjustable lateral tilt)
Maxim Adjustable Ergonomic Keyboard ($150)
- variable split keyboard, non-scooped (i.e. netural posture in lateral deviation, adjustable lateral tilt)
Kinesis Classic Contoured Keyboard ($230)
- scooped and split (neutral posture both in flexion/extentsion and lateral deviation)
- modifier keys and pinky-finger keys moved to thumbs (Ctrl, Alt, Enter, Backspace, etc)
- programmable
TouchStream LP ($340, not currently commercially available, but here is a picture)
- "best thing since sliced bread"
- zero force, split, programmable
- key and mouse input on the same surface

- split, non-adjustable (i.e. neutral posture in lateral deviation, non-adjustable lateral tilt)

- small (hence mouse is closer), non-split

- small size; keys in vertical columns

- vertical keyboard: keeps hands at a 90-degree angle from your desk
