PanoramicData is a visual frontend to SQL: it can access relational SQL databases with minimal initial overhead and without requiring any specific data-layout. Users may rapidly search such structured (tabular) data using visual queries constructed by pen and touch manipulation.

A key feature of PanoramicData is that data visualizers also can serve as data filters. Selecting regions or visualization glyphs within a data visualizer will correspondingly filter the source dataset shown in the table-view. The user can construct 2D filter graphs to create arbitrary Boolean queries, and use touch and pen interaction to manipulate individual filters for focusing on finer-grained details or subsets. For example, one can lasso a region on a map to restrict the range of cities in a geospatial filter.
