Before coming to Brown University, I received a Ph.D and M.S. degrees in
Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Florida. I was working in the
Computational NeuroEngineering Laboratory, supervised by Dr. Jose C. Principe.
I was involved in a joint brain-machine interfaces (BMIs) project with
Duke University, SUNY and MIT, which was sponsored by DARPA.
In this project, I have developed a number of signal processing algorithmic tools
for decoding kinematic variables from an array of hundreds of neuronal firing rates
collected from motor cortical areas of a monkey, and for analyzing the motor-related
neural systems based on BMIs experimental setups. I received my B.S. degree in
Nuclear Engineering at Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea Rep. in 1994.
I live with my wonderful wife, Mikyung, and two lovely daughters, Ejew and Ewon.
