Sun Tech Talk
"What has your Operating System done for you lately?"
Joel Weinberger '07 and Adam Leventhal '01, Sun Microsystems
Thursday, October 11, 2007 at 4:30 P.M.
Lubrano Conference Room (CIT 4th Floor)
The classic view of an Operating System has been as a resource manager for applications, and as an abstraction layer between the hardward and higher- level software. Joel Weinberger '07 and Adam Leventhal '01 will explain some of the recent innovations in Solaris that represent a dramatic departure from that narrow definition of an operating system, and how tools such as DTrace, Zones, ZFS and the Fault Management Architecture are being used as a foundation for even more powerful abstractions. Come by and see how an operating system can do something new for you.
Adam and Joel will also be interviewing for full-time and intern positions at Sun in both the Solaris Kernel Group and FishWorks, an advanced product development team. If you're interested, send mail to fwrecruiting@sun.com with your resume and availability on October 11th and 12th.
