Reaction for: An adventure game approach to multimedia Desgin by Matt Amdur

The one thing that really struck me about this paper was the statement: "A repeated theme in computerized learning is the utilization of technology for technology's sake." I really agree with this, it seems that a lot of the "innovative" ways of teaching are just attempts to use technology for no apparent reason.

For instance, we have ~$60,000 dollar computers sitting in front of students during lecture doing nothing but showing lecture slides. In my astronomy class last semester there were web demonstrations every day in class, and a web site that was a gratuitous attempt to use technology. My question is why? Alright enough on that....

In response to the point of the paper, I think that an adventure game approach to teaching design could be very helpful. Being able to see the implications of your design decisions would be very useful for students when they are just learning about design. I think this article demonstrates many of the reasons why something like Shoe's choose your own design adventure would be useful.
