March 19, 2000 We met and discussed the comments people had on our storyboard presentation. We think we will change the waiting room metaphor to that of a support group of pregnant mothers. Clicking on a mother will have her tell her area of expertise and lead to a module.

March 12, 2000 We tried to firm up our storyboard. Here is what we came up with as the program outline:

Login Screen

  • Clipboard picture where the enter their name, password, and any other information we want to store.
  • Filling in all necessary information on this screen leads to the introductory waiting room.

Waiting room

  • This will model a doctor's waiting room.
  • From here the user has the following options:
  • See Doctor (Move to diagnostic test if first time using program)
  • Read Magazine (will have miscellaneous info about health issues)
  • Talk to secretary (Introduction which leads into See DOctor)

Introduction

  • Explanation of buttons: Info button - ask doctor, Baby button - talk to baby, Exit button - go to end waiting room.
  • Explanation of baby's role (as a lesson giver)
  • Explanation of program flow - Give lesson, then explore scenario,`then receive a summary.
  • This will lead to the diagnostic test.

Diagnostic Test

  • A few introductory questions to get a feel of the mother's lifestyle and environment.
  • This proceeds into the various modules.

Module screens

  • Introduction to specific module
  • Education about topic and chance for user to explore it.
  • Assessment of the user's choices.
  • On the module screens, the user has several help tools. THere's the baby which will pop up and let the mother know about the consequences of her choices on the baby and there's the 'Ask Dr. Mike' button which brings up a more technical explanation of topics.
  • After all the modules are down or the user chooses the exit choice, this goes to the end waiting room screen.

End waiting room.

  • Magazine (medical information)
  • Talk to people (hear stories of people in similar situations)
  • See Doctor (determine how you've progressed and tlak about how your choices reflect how your baby is doing).
  • From here you can end the program.

Approximately March 1 or so

We worked on ideas for our storyboard. Here's what we came up with:

  • Start off program with familiar metaphor of a doctor's visit.
    • Picture of a waiting room.
    • Clipboard to sign in, add person's data to database or look up based on previous use of program.
  • Next provide optional tutorial for how to use program.
  • Then give diagnostic to get a feel for lifestyle.
  • Then, meet baby avatar
    • This would follow user through program.
    • Meant to personify fetus the mother has within her.
    • Will give direct commentary on how mother's actions affect baby.
    • Should be cute/light-hearted.
  • Next the user would be placed into the learning scenarios which would have the following format:
    • An intro to the scenario
    • A screen/screens where the user would have choices to experiment with what to do. One example is going to the supermarket to shop for food. Each food choice is presented and when the mother clicks on it, the baby responds with how it will affect him/her.
    • These scenarios would definitely have a presentation/choice-making component which would be largely experimental. There might also be assessment done at this stage, the results of which would go into the database.
    • As well as the baby on these screens, provding automatic commentary, there would be a virtual doctor button that would bring up more medical information about various scenarios.
  • After the scenarios, the user goes back to the doctor's office.
    • Here, there will probably be assessments done, the results of which will go into the database.
    • Possible things that might occur in this doctor's visit include talking to the baby aabout its health, asking about what behaviors the mother might need to change to keep her baby healthy, a full assessment of the choices made, and further education such as videos of women who had problems or who didn't with their pregnancies because of certian situations.
