Name: Diego Morales Dept: Computer Science Year (Fr, So, Jr, Sr, Gr): Sr Want to learn: How to work with other disciplines in applying Computer Science to their problems. I really do agree with Brooks in his Toolsmith II paper. I've been learning CS for a while, now I want to apply it to the research problems of other sciences. Other goals for class: Hopefully implement a tool for another discipline's problem that will help that discipline solve that problem. And have fun, of course. Role you would like to play in a project and skills you bring: I don't know how many people in the class are CS majors, so I don't know how many people say that they bring programming to the table. I definitely do because I'm a CS concentrator, but I would say that I bring a more visual UI focused CS as I have a majority of my experience working with front-end technologies and designing UI. I have lots of front-end web development experience, which is very visual. Relevant CS classes or skills (graphics, UI, 3D graphics, GL,languages, vision, ML): I have taken Intro to Graphics and Intro to Artificial Intelligence. I am currently taking Designing, Developing and Evaluating User Interfaces. I'm a CS concentrator and thus have taken a myriad of CS courses. I also know most popular programming languages. However, I have very little experience in computer vision and ML. Relevant math classes or skills (calculus, linear algebra, numerical methods, signal processing, ode's, pde's, etc.): I know single variable calculus, a fair amount of multivariable calculus, and linear algebra. Besides that, I haven't taken a lot of math classes, and while I would not say that I am fantastic at Math, I'm not bad either. I just haven't chosen to focus on it. Relevant science background: I have a good basic knowledge of physics, chemistry, biology, and psychology, but I would say my biological background is strongest as I find biology most interesting. I have taken classes on Evolutionary Biology, Mechanisms of Animal Behavior (which admittedly is a mix of Biology and Psychology), and Biotechnolgy in Medicine. You can say that I am very interested in the ways CS can advance Biology as a field, including the applications to medicine and our understanding of the life around us.
