Apr 02, 2012 ↠ NewSQL Guest Speakers
We have arranged for two guest speakers from Boston-area NewSQL companies to come to speak to the class. First up is Doron Levari from ScaleBase on Monday April 2nd. Then we have Ori Herrnstadt from Akiban on Monday April 9th.
All talks will start at 4:30 in CIT 367 and are open to the general public.

Feb 12, 2012 ↠ Start of Student Presentations
For tomorrow's class, we will have a one hour presentation on the distributed transaction readings from Alex Kalinin followed by a 20 minute presentation on NuoDB from Nelson Onyibe. You can print out your one page synopsis for the readings and had them to Stan at the beginning of class.
Afterwards, Andy Pavlo will do a quick presentation on how to get started with using H-Store and provide a high-level overview of the internal architecture.

The first day of class will be on Monday, January 30th. We will first discuss the syllabus and the proposed schedule. We will then have a crash course on distributed databases to prepare you for the rest of the semester.

Welcome to the course webpage for "NewSQL - The Course". This is a seminar course that will cover a new emerging class of parallel and distributed database management systems that are super-charged for executing transactional workloads. Topics will include the fundamentals of parallel and NewSQL databases, cloud computing databases, and partitioned main memory systems. All projects will be designed to familiarize the student with state-of-the-art practices in modern database systems.
