The Department has a MSDN Academic Alliance subscription with Microsoft. The MSDNAA subscription provide the department access to most Microsoft products except for MS Office. MS Office is provided by CIS Software Services through their own subscription. In addition to the Microsoft software, the subscription provides the Department with a DreamSpark software download site for Microsoft products managed by Kivuto Solutions Inc.
DreamSparkDreamSpark is a Microsoft Program that supports technical education by providing access to Microsoft software for learning, teaching and research purposes. Faculty, staff and students in the Department can get access to the DreamSpark software download site by submitting an email access request to firstname.lastname@example.org or register at the DreamSpark site directly via the Sign In menu at the top right corner of the DreamSpark home page.
This page lists software distributed by the Department Technical Staff. Machines managed by tstaff will have the latest versions listed below. Notebooks and faculty/staff home machines are distributed with this list of software current as of when the machine was built.
The Research list of software is installed on machines designated for CS research, which comprises most machines used by the department. The Special list of software contains items that are available, but not installed on all machines due to license restrictions.
Keyed software are provided by CIS Software Services and needs to be able to connect to the Brown CIS key server when run. It can only be used when connected to the Brown network or VPN'd into the department.
