Debian Jessie

Debian Jessie was officially released on April 25th, 2015.  For the complete release notes note, go to the Debian site.

With Jessie, the default init system changed from sysvinit to systemd.  The systemd suites provides faster boot time, cgroups for services and the possibility of isolating part of the services.  The sysvinit init system is still available in Jessie for those who do not want to use the systemd init system.
