Industry Partners Program: Computer Science at Brown

Brown University's Department of Computer Science has been ranked by the National Academy of Science among the top computer science departments in the nation.

The Department's offices and laboratories occupy the top three floors of Brown's showcase facility for educational computing, the Center for Information Technology. With four specialized research laboratories, a large learning theater filled with advanced-function color workstations, and a large array of research and instructional workstations, the Department is among the best equipped in the country. In addition, the Department participates in the Center for Scientific Computing and Visualization, which manages an immersive visualization environment (a four-wall Cave and a responsive workbench) powered by an IBM SP2 supercomputer.

The Department also participates in the Center for Geometric Computing. The Department offers Master's and Ph.D. degree programs as well as undergraduate Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees. It also offers joint undergraduate concentrations in applied mathematics and CS, mathematics and CS, and computational biology.

The Department is highly regarded for the quality of its undergraduate education and of its research in many areas. Our students and faculty share an interest in the problems of industry that is informed by a concern for the foundations and technology of computer science.
